Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve put together this list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you get a clearer understanding of how my counselling services work, and what you can expect. If you have any other questions that aren’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to reach out through the Contact page.
I’m always happy to help.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you here, what you hope to achieve, and how we can work together. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about the process.
How long does each session last, and how often should I have them?
Each session lasts 50 Minutes. The frequency of sessions depends on your needs.
For most people weekly sessions are helpful, while others may prefer fortnightly or monthly meetings.
How much do your sessions cost, and are there any discounts for booking multiple sessions?
Sessions are online/telephone and in person and cost £65 each.
Prices for couples and block bookings discounts on request.
What type of issues can I bring to counselling?
You can bring any emotional or personal challenge you’re dealing with, such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. We’ll work through whatever is on your mind in a supportive and non-judgmental space.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
During the free introductory session, we’ll discuss your goals and needs, and you’ll get a feel for my style. It’s important that you feel comfortable and that my approach resonates with you. We’ll use that time to see if we’re a good fit for working together.
Is everything we talk about confidential?
Yes, everything we discuss in our sessions is completely confidential. The only exceptions are if I have reason to believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, if there is a legal obligation (such as a court order), or if safeguarding issues arise. If confidentiality needs to be broken for any reason, this would always be discussed with you first whenever possible.
What if I feel uncomfortable during a session?
I'll always try to ensure we're going at a pace that feels right for you. If I notice you're struggling I'll check in, and you can always ask to take a moment. The aim is to create a space where you feel safe enough to say when something doesn't feel right.
How long will I need to stay in counselling?
There's no set timeline. Some people find that 6 sessions gives them what they need, while others are working through more complex or long-standing challenges and stay for much longer. We'll review how things are going as we go and you're always in control of how long we work together. There's no pressure to stay longer than feels right, and no pressure to leave before you're ready.
What’s your approach to counselling
I work pluralistically, drawing on person-centred, humanistic, psychodynamic, and CBT approaches. This means I tailor what I do to what actually works for you rather than following a fixed method.
Do you give homework or exercises to do between sessions?
Sometimes. There can be reflective exercises or tools to help you process your emotions between sessions. I'll always discuss anything like this with you first and we'll only move forward with it if you feel comfortable.
How do online sessions work?
Sessions take place via Google Meet and you'll receive a link before each session. All you need is a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet private space where you won't be interrupted. If you'd prefer audio only that's absolutely fine too. Online sessions work just as well as face-to-face and most clients find they settle in quickly and appreciate the flexibility of being able to join from home.
