ABOUT ME
However you found this page, something has made you stop and look. Whatever it is that's going on for you, welcome — no judgement here.
I'm Darrel. I'm a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, and this seems like the perfect time to let you know how I work.
I'm not the kind of therapist who sits quietly, tilts their head and asks how that made you feel every now and then. I feel like my job is to be curious about you. I ask questions that get to the point, and I'll challenge you when I think it'll help. Not to catch you out, but because that's usually where the useful stuff is.

Working together we will unpick things. You talk, I listen and ask questions to find out more, and somewhere along the way you start to notice things you hadn't before. Patterns. Connections. Moments where something suddenly makes sense, or where you realise you want something different. When that happens I will help you get there, and then get out of your way.
I came to counselling the long way round, qualifying later in life as a deliberate choice, because I wanted to do work that actually meant something.
Before retraining I spent years in business, sitting on boards and running my own company. I lost a company during the pandemic, which was a lot to deal with. I've faced significant challenges in my personal life too. I'm also dyslexic. School was genuinely hard, but in business and in life it turned out to be a quiet advantage. I see things others miss and ask questions most people don't think to ask.
The people who find their way to me come from all walks of life. Some are professionals carrying more than anyone around them realises. Some are going through something that's turned their world upside down. Some just know that something isn't working and can't quite put their finger on why. There's no right or wrong reason to be here.
